ASEE Midwest Section 2009 Conference
The ASEE Midwest Section 2009 Annual Conference will be hosted by The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, September 16 - 18, 2009.
The American Society for Engineering Education has provided leadership and information to the U.S. engineering education community since 1893. Through several key policy studies of engineering education, provocative and informative publications, and opportunities for interaction among its members, ASEE has helped the community adapt to society's changing needs and ensure the continued relevance of engineering education.
Welcome Reception
The conference will begin with a Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening, September 16, 2009, at Othmer Hall on the campus of The University of Nebraska. Othmer Hall is the home of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, the Office of College Relations and the Dean's Office suite. It is located on the south side of Walter Scott Engineering Center, between 16th and 17th Streets along Vine Street.

The campus is less than one block northeast of the hotel. Othmer Hall is approximately 7 blocks (as the crow flies) northeast of the Embassy Suites. Othmer Hall is number 67 on the above map.
Conference Events
Conference presentations and banquet will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel on 1040 P Street in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska that is conveniently located adjacent to the UNL City Campus.
Presentations will be held beginning September 17, 2009, and continuing through lunch on Friday, September 18, 2009, at the Embassy Hotel. The hotel will also be the location of the conference banquet, which will take place on Thursday evening, September 17, 2009.

Presented at the 2009 Midwest Section Meeting, Sept. 16 - 18, 2009, in Lincoln, Nebraska Sponsored by the Deans of the ASEE Midwest Section
Each school is permitted one nominee in the first category and multiple nominees in the second category. Nominees do not have to be ASEE members, but, in a close contest, the award will go to the ASEE member. Award winners are expected to attend the September ASEE Midwest Meeting.
Deadline for the nomination packets: June 1, 2009
Nomination format:
- Letter of nomination from the Dean or designee (no more than one page)
- Nominee's Vita (no more than three pages)
- Supporting information including letters of endorsement (no more than 11 pages)
- Late nominations or nominations exceeding page limits will not be considered

Midwest Section Outstanding Teaching Award:
Consists of a $750 to $1000 honorarium and certificate of recognition to an individual whose activities indicate outstanding contributions to engineering and/or technology education. Additional criteria used to judge the nominees for this award are listed on the ASEE national webpage (www.asee.org/activities/awards/section.cfm). This award is jointly sponsored by the Deans of the Midwest Section. The winner becomes the nominee of the Section for the ASEE National Outstanding Teaching Medal for the following year.
Qualifications for Teaching Awards: Any member of the section may nominate candidates for the outstanding teaching and service awards. The nomination package should include a letter of support from the Dean or his/her designee. Each school may forward one nominee per award. Up to a three-page vita and no more than 11 additional pages of information, (including support letters) make up each school's nomination package. Supporting letters from colleagues and current and past students are recommended but not required. The nomination package must be sent to the Midwest Section Awards Chair.
Midwest Section Outstanding Service Award:
An honorarium of $500 to $1000 and certificate of recognition to an individual whose contributions to engineering and/or technology education primarily through teaching support and/or non-classroom, student-related activities deserves recognition as well as for involvement in ASEE and ASEE Midwest Section activities. This award is sponsored by the Deans of the Midwest Section.
Qualifications: Any member of the section may nominate candidates for this award by preparing a nomination package that includes a nomination letter, a nomination rationale statement, a vitae, and evidence of service accomplishments. Supporting letters from colleagues are recommended but are not required. The nomination package must be sent to the Midwest Section Awards Chair.

Conference Location
The 2009 ASEE Midwest Regional Conference will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Parking
Convenient parking is available across the street from the Embassy Suites in the city-owned parking garages (111 Q Street). Twenty-four hour rates at the City Parking garage across the street from Embassy Suites is $6.00 per day. Valet parking by the hotel is available at $15.00 per night.
Parking near Othmer Hall for the Wednesday evening reception is problematic, and it is recommended you walk or ride the special shuttle bus. Print the above .pdf map for walking directions. This map will also be available at the Embassy Suites front desk and registration desks on Wednesday evening. There will be an University Shuttle bus running from between the Embassy Suites and Othmer Hall, beginning approximately 5:45 PM and ending about 8:00 PM, Wednesday evening.
Hotel Accommodations
Hotel Accommodations, conference presentations and banquet will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel on 1040 P Street in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska that is conveniently located adjacent to the UNL City Campus. The Embassy Suites Hotel is located between 10th and 11th Streets (N-S) on the north side of P Street in downtown Lincoln.
Guest rooms are available for participants at a special conference rate and can be reserved by calling toll free 800-Embassy (800-362-2779) or (402) 474-1111. To receive the special rate, please tell them you are attending the ASEE Midwest Section 2009 Annual Conference. The deadline for the special rate is August 28, 2009.
Make your reservation early in order to secure lodging. Attendees will make accommodations on their own and be responsible for their own charges.

If you plan to fly to get to the conference, the two nearest airports are located in Lincoln and Omaha, NE. If you arrive in Lincoln, you can use the Embassy Suites Hotel courtesy van service to get from the airport to the hotel. If you arrive in Omaha, you can reserve space on a shuttle that transports passengers from the Omaha airport to/from the Embassy Suites (and other Lincoln hotels). See the below links for more details. Car rental services are convenient at both airports. Lincoln is approximately a one-hour drive from Omaha.
For those who plan to drive to Lincoln, located in the southeastern part of Nebraska, it is located along I-80 (E-W) and U.S. Highway 77 (N-S).
